Teachers play the most important role in the development of manpower in Indonesia. To keep up with the rapid changes of technologies and information, teacher must have the competence in the ICT and Value Education. Ironically only few teachers have the skills and the ability to develop their skills due to the lack of support. Another obstacle is that most of our teachers were trained to use the traditional approaches, which make students get bored. If we want to change the end result we also must change the system and the approaches. For this reason, ASPnet initiated a program called "Weekend Workshops on ICT and Value Education". To introduce teachers to the teaching of value education through ICT training, these workshops run for fifteen sessions covering topics such as: Lifelong Guidelines/LiFESKILLS, Multiple Intelligence, Cooperative Learning, Inquiry Learning, Project Based Learning, Performance Assessments, including creating rubrics and checklist, and Writing Projects. The main objective of these workshops is to introduce teachers to student centred teaching approaches, which are effective and enjoyable for both students and teachers. This gives teachers a new perspective and role in their profession. They become facilitators of learning, which make learning easier and more interesting for students while simultaneously producing independent, lifelong learners. |
